Learning resources for children and families
Hope-hear has selected trusted learning platforms that can help children practise reading, language, maths, and school subjects at home or in the classroom. These resources may be especially helpful for children who need extra support, revision, or more time to practise.
The resources below are from recognised South African education platforms and include materials for different grades, languages, and learning needs.
Some are best suited to younger children, while others are designed for high school learners. They do not replace a teacher, therapist, or formal assessment, but they can help families and teachers support learning in practical ways.
The Department of Basic Education
Provides free study materials for learners across South Africa.
These include workbooks, reading materials, study guides, past papers, video lessons, audio lessons, and resources for different grades and subjects.
These resources can help parents support learning at home and help teachers find extra materials for revision, reading, and classroom support.
Western Cape Education Department ePortal
The WCED ePortal provides digital learning resources for learners, parents, and teachers. It includes weekly lessons, activities, assessments, reading resources, and subject support from Grade R to Grade 12.
The resources are organised by grade and subject, making it easier to find the right learning material for a child’s age and school level.

Vodacom e-Learning
Offers free online learning content for Grade R to Grade 12. It includes video lessons, homework questions, quizzes, workbooks, and progress tracking.
For Vodacom customers, the platform is free to use and does not use mobile data. Children can learn on a phone, tablet, or computer, and can pause, rewind, and repeat lessons at their own pace.
Milani Education
The lessons are organised by grade and subject, making it easier for learners to find what they need. Learners can work through the content at their own pace, repeat lessons, and use the platform for extra practice, revision, or support.
Milani Education is a registered non-profit organisation, and its learning content is free to access.

Are they free and data-friendly?
All of the resources listed are free to use, although terms and conditions exist.
Vodacom e-Learning is zero-rated for Vodacom users, which means learners can use the platform without using their mobile data.
The WCED ePortal is also zero-rated by most internet providers, although some activities on the site may still use data.
Other resources, such as Milani Education, are free to access but may still require data.
